diani beach wedding

Bride and groom kissing on a tropical beach

Diani Beach sits on the Kenyan coast south of Mombasa, and it is one of those places that stops you the moment you arrive. Powder white sand, warm Indian Ocean water, and a coastline that stretches further than you can see in either direction. For their wedding at Kinondo Kwetu, Imani and Tom chose to get married directly on the beach itself rather than within a more traditional setting, and it was completely the right decision.

Kinondo Kwetu has a very different atmosphere to many luxury beach venues. It feels private, relaxed, and deeply connected to the landscape around it. There’s an ease to the way weddings unfold there that suits destination celebrations so beautifully. Imani wore a Prea James gown that felt perfect against the soft tones of the Kenyan coast and the understated atmosphere of Kinondo Kwetu.

The ceremony took place at the water’s edge with the Indian Ocean as the backdrop and the sound of the waves as the only soundtrack that mattered. Intimate, unhurried, and entirely their own.

As a destination wedding photographer, Kinondo Kwetu and Diani Beach give you extraordinary material to work with. The light on the Kenyan coast has a quality I haven’t found anywhere else. Warm and direct during the day, before shifting into something softer and more golden as the afternoon moves towards evening. Imani and Tom’s portraits along the shoreline at Kinondo Kwetu were some of the most beautiful I have taken anywhere.

As the evening arrived, guests gathered beneath the coastal sky with laughter, music, candlelight, and the sound of the ocean carrying late into the warm Kenyan night. A wedding at Kinondo Kwetu at its best. Relaxed, joyful, and deeply connected to the setting around it.
