The evening before a wedding is one of my favourite things to photograph. Everyone has arrived, the anticipation is building, and nobody quite knows what to do with themselves yet. Emily and Huy solved that beautifully by booking out Trattoria da Lorenzo in Ravello and teaching their guests how to make pizza.
Trattoria da Lorenzo is the kind of place that feels like it has always been there - tucked into Ravello, high above the Amalfi Coast, with the warmth and ease of a family kitchen scaled up for a room full of people who have just flown in from around the world. As a setting for a welcome party, it was perfect.
What followed was genuinely, unscripted fun. Guests who had never met each other found themselves elbow-deep in dough, laughing at the results, arguing good-naturedly about technique. By the time the pizzas came out and the local wine started flowing, the room felt like a group of old friends rather than a collection of strangers from different corners of the world. That is exactly what a good welcome party is supposed to do.
